Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge

I have found a new love! Participating in the challenges over at Simon Says Stamp and Show.
It's really fun to just get creative for the fun of it! Be given a prompt and interpret that into a piece of art!
I can see doing this on an ongoing basis!  SO fun.
This week the challenge was to do something with a quote.
This is one that speaks to me.  It is one of my faves! I even have it in cling and wood, wink.
The wood sits on display with some of my other favorites.
It is a Tim stamp for Stampers Anonymous.
I swear he has the best quotes and sentiments.
Ones that really speak to you.

For this challenge I wanted to have something that I could use as a piece of home decor as well.
I decided to use a 4x12 canvas.  Love that size.  It really gives just the right amount of real estate to work on. Not to much so you feel like you have to fill it up, but enough that you can add decorative embellishments as well.
The canvas was covered with one of my favorite standby's...dictionary pages.  They were adhered with Ranger's Glue and Seal (matte).  Then added some White Distress Paint.  Once that dried, I inked over the whole canvas with Gathered Twigs, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Inks.  Love seeing the strokes from adding the paint.  Bonus texture!
I used Tim's Gears, the large and small, cut out of chipboard.  To get that fun beat up metal look, I painted them with Silver Adirondack Dabber Paint.  Sanded it, inked it with Walnut Distress Ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  To get those fun little "cracks" to appear, I took a crackle stamp and stamped it with Black Archival Ink.  I think that really adds to the aging effect.
Of course I had to get in some butterflies.  I really need to step away from the butterflies, wink...but they always seem to find their way on to my projects!  hehehe.
The Sentiment stamp was stamped on Tim's Cameo Frame Die, inked with Gathered Twigs, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Inks.  Then stamped in Walnut Stain with the same crackle stamp.
Also used on the project were Idea-ology gears and mini gears, game spinners, Stacked Artful Words Die Strip, Wanted Alphabet Die strip, Simple Sayings Stamp set, manila tags, clear embossing powder, glossy accents, and glue and seal.

Hope you enjoyed and or was inspired to get your inks and stuff out to play! Go on over to Simon Says Stamp and Show and see what their design team did this week. Amazing inspiration!

  1. Yvonne...you are ROCKIN' these challenges, girlfriend! I love this piece you have submitted for our Quotable Quotes challenge. The one you have used is one of my favorites. I love all of your gears and "watch parts" ... perfectly fits with the sentiment about time. I also love your delicate little butterflies in contrast to the metal and heavy equipment feeling of the gears. So pretty! Thanks so much for joining us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy
