Advice From A Tree by Tonya Gibbs

I think I really needed this today!
Thank you Tonya for sharing really is a fabulous quote!

Some days you need to just take a little advice from a tree!  I was waiting at the Doctor's office for my turn in line flipping through Pinterest and found this quote and instantly fell in love! I remembered that Yvonne had a stamp from Impression Obsession that was a Palm Tree patiently waiting my turn, I took myself to a tropical oasis, and began jotting down ideas to remind myself of this sappy wisdom!

Advice from a Tree:
Stand tall and proud
Go out on a limb
Remember your roots
Drink plenty of water
Be content with your natural beauty
Enjoy the view.

Seriously, aren't these words to live by daily?

I created my journal page inside this great  4x8  Art Journal
which I have shared with you in other posts.

Here is the stamp that has become the star of today's post.
Impression Obsession Stamp - Palm Tree 17091

I would like for my book to remain flat if possible but want it to have the illusion of layers.  So I decided to put my trees on a nice sunset scene and add lots of sharp crisp shadows around my palm frowns.  To give life to the branches, I used several shades of green and a white gel pen as a final touch.  I love how much texture is in the final piece, yet the trees ae perfectly flat!

In the video below, I share with you all the techniques on how to achieve this look.

Since this book is small, I decided to simply hand write my title and quote.  If you are not comfortable with your handwriting, you could always use die cuts, stickers or stamps for the title, and print out your quote then use matt medium to glue it to the journal page.
Here is a list of all the colors that I used to create the background:

Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Paint:     Salty Ocean, Broken China, Forest Moss, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Spun Sugar, Walnut Stain, Ripe Persimmon

To add transparent shadowing and depth I used my Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pens in the following colors:
Pink Madder Lake 129, Scarlet Red 118, Light Cobalt Turquoise 154, May Green 170, Chromium Green Opaque 174, Cadmium Yellow 107, Dark Sepia 175, Cold Grey  233, White 101, Black 199, and Earth Green 172.

Other Journal Pens:  Uni-ball Jetstream 1.0,  Sharpie King, Sharpie Fine Point, Gelly Roll White

Thank you for stopping in today.  I hope I've given you something to think about next time you walk by a tree!  If you have this stamp - I would love to see what you are doing with it.  Please share your creations with me in social media by using #YBPalmTree in Twitter, Facebook or Instagram so I can see how you are using it.   Place a comment down below, and let me know your thoughts!
